- What was measured
- Synthesis and uptake of carnosine, anserine and related dipeptides from labelled beta-alanine or GABA in primary embryonic chick pectoral muscle cultures across differentiation.
What the authors reported
Cultured muscle cells synthesised carnosine and related dipeptides. Anserine appeared to form by methylation of carnosine, and both synthesis and uptake rose as myoblasts fused into myotubes, showing active synthesis in muscle rather than deposition from elsewhere.
Limits of this study
Chick embryo cell culture. Full text not read.
