- What was measured
- An isocratic ion-pair reversed-phase HPLC method for carnosine and other biogenic imidazoles in horse plasma (deproteinised with sulphosalicylic acid, extracted on cartridges), with recovery, detection limits and retention time, plus comparative values in dog and human plasma.
What the authors reported
The author reports recoveries of 97 to 105%, detection limits of 58.3 to 80.1 nM, and all compounds resolved within 9.2 minutes. Mean equine plasma carnosine was 11.31 micromol/L. Carnosine was not detected in human plasma, and imidazole concentrations in dog plasma are reported for the first time.
