Inhibitory effect of polaprezinc on the inflammatory response to Helicobacter pylori
Laboratory studyOther animalsWith zinc (as polaprezinc)
This study tested carnosine together with zinc (as polaprezinc). Its results cannot be assigned to carnosine alone. More combination studies.

- What was measured
- IL-8 production by MKN45 gastric cells exposed to H. pylori water extract; neutrophil CD11b/CD18 expression and adhesion to endothelium.
What the authors reported
Polaprezinc and zinc sulphate both inhibited IL-8 production dose-dependently between 10^-7 and 10^-5 M, and both reduced neutrophil CD11b/CD18 expression and neutrophil adhesion to endothelial cells. L-carnosine alone had no effect on either, so the authors suggest the activity comes mainly from the zinc component.
