- What was measured
- Aggregation of alpha-synuclein incubated with ceruloplasmin and hydrogen peroxide, assessed by thioflavin-S staining and protein carbonyl formation, with hydroxyl radical scavengers, a copper chelator, or carnosine, homocarnosine and anserine.
What the authors reported
Ceruloplasmin plus hydrogen peroxide induced fibrillar alpha-synuclein aggregates and protein carbonyls through hydroxyl radical generation; scavengers, spin traps and penicillamine inhibited aggregation. Carnosine, homocarnosine and anserine significantly inhibited the aggregation.
Limits of this study
In vitro protein aggregation model; carnosine was one of several agents tested. Abstract only.
