Efficacy and Safety of Polaprezinc-Based Therapy versus the Standard Triple Therapy for Helicobacter pylori Eradication: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Meta-analysisHumansWith zinc (as polaprezinc / zinc-L-carnosine) added to triple therapy
This study tested carnosine together with zinc (as polaprezinc / zinc-L-carnosine) added to triple therapy. Its results cannot be assigned to carnosine alone. More combination studies.

What the authors reported
Adding polaprezinc to triple therapy improved eradication in intention-to-treat analysis (OR 2.01, 95% CI 1.27 to 3.21, p = 0.003) and per protocol (OR 2.65, 95% CI 1.55 to 4.54, p = 0.0004). Total adverse events did not differ (OR 1.06, 95% CI 0.55 to 2.06, p = 0.85). The authors said the evidence is still scarce and larger trials are needed.
Limits of this study
Only 3 trials. Registered PROSPERO CRD42022349231. The authors state the evidence is scarce and larger trials are needed. Risk of bias and heterogeneity not stated in abstract. Full text not read.
