What was measured
Homocarnosine-carnosine synthetase and carnosinase activity across nine rat CNS regions and subcellular fractions; Km values for beta-alanine and GABA.

What the authors reported

Olfactory bulbs had the highest activity of both synthetase and carnosinase. Synthetase was mainly in the cell sap and carnosinase highest in mitochondria. Synthetases from olfactory bulb, cerebellum and spinal cord showed similar Km values for beta-alanine and GABA.

Limits of this study

Rat tissue enzymology. Full text not read. PubMed record carries no abstract, so findings could not be rechecked against PubMed; PubMed prints the page range as I87-90.
