What was measured
Carnosine uptake kinetics in rat choroid plexus cell monolayers and in choroid plexus tissue from wild-type and PEPT2 knockout mice.

What the authors reported

Carnosine was taken up mainly from the apical side with limited basolateral efflux. A high-affinity PEPT2-type process had a Km of 34 uM and Vmax of 73 pmol/mg protein/min; a non-saturable component made up about 3% of uptake. PEPT2 accounted for over 90% of carnosine uptake in choroid plexus tissue.

Limits of this study

In vitro and ex vivo rodent tissue (rat cell cultures, mouse tissue). An erratum was published (J Neurochem 2004;91(4):1024). Full text not read.
