- What was measured
- Review of synthetic carnosine derivatives designed to overcome the homeostatic limits on carnosine's therapeutic use.
What the authors reported
The authors state that carnosine's many proposed therapeutic properties, mostly related to antioxidant and metal-chelating activity, are limited by the mechanisms governing its homeostasis, which has driven synthesis of derivatives; few have reached application. They present the derivatives as candidate drugs for pathologies linked to oxidative stress and metal ion dyshomeostasis.
