Polaprezinc Attenuates Helicobacter pylori-Associated Gastritis in Mongolian Gerbils
Controlled trialOther animalsWith zinc (as polaprezinc)
This study tested carnosine together with zinc (as polaprezinc). Its results cannot be assigned to carnosine alone. More combination studies.
- Design
- Controlled trial
- Dose used in the study
- 0.02% polaprezinc in chow
- Duration
- 12 weeks
- What was measured
- H. pylori density, neutrophil activity, mononuclear infiltration, epithelial erosion, mucosal thickness and intestinal metaplasia in infected gerbils; monochloramine scavenging in vitro.
What the authors reported
Polaprezinc had little effect on H. pylori density but significantly reduced neutrophil activity, mononuclear infiltration and surface erosion. It also limited the increase in mucosal thickness and scavenged monochloramine in vitro. No intestinal metaplasia was found.
Limits of this study
