- What was measured
- Carnosine and anserine in rat longissimus dorsi and quadriceps femoris, and total histidine dipeptides in left ventricle, in young, senescent, normotensive and hypertensive rats.
What the authors reported
Skeletal muscle carnosine and anserine fell 35 to 50 percent during senescence and were 35 to 45 percent lower in hypertensive than normotensive rats. In left ventricle no free carnosine or anserine was detected, but total histidine dipeptides fell 22 percent with senescence and were 35 percent lower in hypertensive animals.
Limits of this study
Descriptive rat study; group sizes not stated in abstract. Abstract only.
