Raman and IR spectroscopic investigation of zinc(II)-carnosine complexes
Laboratory studyOther animalsWith zinc (zinc(II)-carnosine complexes)
This study tested carnosine together with zinc (zinc(II)-carnosine complexes). Its results cannot be assigned to carnosine alone. More combination studies.

- What was measured
- Raman and IR spectra of the zinc(II)-L-carnosine system at different pH values and metal to ligand ratios.
What the authors reported
Marker bands identified the imidazole tautomer and the nitrogen atoms involved in zinc chelation. At basic pH a water-insoluble polymeric species predominated alongside a dimer; the dimer dominated at pH 7, and two charged monomeric complexes formed under slightly acidic conditions, one with and one without imidazole coordination.
Limits of this study
Spectroscopic chemistry relevant to the structure of zinc-carnosine (polaprezinc) but with no biological endpoint. Abstract only.
