Carnosine, the Protective, Anti-aging Peptide
Controlled trialOther animals

- Controlled trial
- What was measured
- Physical and behavioural signs of senescence and average lifespan in senescence-accelerated mice (SAM) fed carnosine in the diet, compared with a control strain.
What the authors reported
Dietary carnosine reduced the development of senile features in SAM, seen in physical and behavioural measures and in average lifespan. A smaller effect was seen in the control strain.
Limits of this study
Dose, duration and animal numbers not stated in abstract. Rodents lack serum carnosinase, so oral results do not carry over to people. Full text not read.
