- What was measured
- Free amino acids and dipeptides (including carnosine and anserine) in cerebrospinal fluid, plasma and urine of probable Alzheimer's disease subjects and age- and sex-matched controls, by LC-MS/MS.
What the authors reported
Plasma carnosine was significantly lower in probable Alzheimer's disease (328.4 +/- 91.31 nmol/dL) than in controls (654.23 +/- 100.61 nmol/dL), while L-DOPA was higher. Imidazole amino acids, catecholamines, citrulline, ornithine, glycine and the dipeptides carnosine and anserine accounted for the main differences between groups.
Limits of this study
