What was measured
Chemistry, mechanism and clinical use of the zinc complex of L-carnosine (polaprezinc) as an anti-ulcer drug.

What the authors reported

Polaprezinc is described as the first oral drug in which zinc has an essential role. Its 1:1 polymeric quadridentate structure resists dissociation in gastric juice, so it adheres to ulcer lesions and releases zinc and carnosine there. The authors report high clinical efficacy, no serious side effects and an inhibitory effect on Helicobacter pylori.

Limits of this study

Narrative review by authors from Hamari Chemicals, a maker of the drug; no quantitative clinical data in the abstract. Full text not read.
